Faculty Fellows Prepare for Fall 2012 Courses

27 Mar

Faculty Fellows offer some of the most exciting, innovative, and unique courses at GWU.  Faculty from across the university compete for a coveted seat with this initiative of the University Honors Program.  Fellows teach a single course–exclusive to the UHP–during one semester of their sabbatical year, and spend the entirety of the year researching, meeting with students, and participating in colloquia. At the culmination of their teaching semester, they offer a public lecture.

For the initiative’s inaugural year, the UHP is proud to announce the selection of Prof. Lori Brainard (TSPPPA) and Prof. W. M. Kim Roddis (SEAS), who will be teaching courses on the Mt. Vernon campus in the fall semester of 2012.

Prof. Lori Brainard

Prof. Brainard will offer Governance, Civic Engagement and Social Media. Honors students will investigate the possibilities of government in the age of social media, and integrate their online experiences to participate with larger questions of citizenship, political and policy efficacy, and professional development.

Prof. Roddis will offer Solar Decathalon, a course to explore sustainability, the science underlying the basic processes that gave rise to the world we live in and that maintain its viability for human life, while engaging with and contributing to the GW-CUA 2013 Solar Decathlon team. The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is an award-winning program that challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive.

Prof. John Sides (CCAS) and Prof. Barbara Van Barghahn (CCAS) were also selected for the 2012-2013 academic year, and will be teaching their courses in the spring 2013 semester.
