Congrats to Prof. Houston Miller’s freshman science course, whose Vitalgae project was featured in the winning video at the Planet Forward Film Festival!

With 20 years of experience, Greater DC Cares is the leading and largest coordinator of volunteerism in the region. Greater DC Cares comprehensively mobilizes volunteers and strengthens nonprofits to better impact communities and the key issues in the Greater DC Region. Work for Sweet Charity [Internship]

Sweet Charity has been rated as one of Washington’s Top 100 Events and showcases over sixty award winning chefs hosting sweet and savory tasting stations, food demonstrations, a silent auction, and a chocolate fashion show! Proceeds from Sweet Charity ticket sales help The Heart of America Foundation provide thousands of books for children living in poverty in the DC metropolitan area.

At The Heart of America Foundation (a national nonprofit), we uniquely combine volunteerism and literacy to provide children in need with the tools to read, succeed and make a difference. We put books into the hands of children in need while transforming school libraries in under-served communities into vital and vibrant centers of learning that become the heart of a school. Since 1997, we have provided children living in poverty with over two million library and take-home books, and engaged volunteers in more than one million hours of service to the community.

These positions are unpaid;
however provide interns with an opportunity to develop essential professional skills, gain unique events and design experience, and to make valuable contacts.

1 Intern – Silent Auction
• 3 days a week
• Research potential donors
• Develop and maintain a database of mailings, contacts and bidders
• Mail out donation requests
• Track received donations
• Develop packages for silent auction
• Write descriptions for silent auction book
• Manage silent auction on night of event
• Provide administrative support for Host Committee subcommittee

1 Intern – Marketing and Design
• 2-3 days a week
• Assist with design and production of Sweet Charity promotion materials
• Maintain social media websites in order to promote the event
• Create e-blasts and submit free event listings
• Assist with implementation of Sweet Charity marketing plan
• Provide administrative support for Host Committee subcommittee
