Hurry, before climate changes again!

10 Apr

Next Friday, April 20, Houston Miller’s Scientific Reasoning and Discovery class will be hosting an Open House for Real Climate GW. The students, who have been building this “start-up company” since classes began in August, will showcase their work in building a carbon dioxide sensor post to educate the community about climate change.

Stop by the UHP townhouse in Foggy Bottom between 3 and 5pm to learn more about their work this year and possibly have a cookie.

Algae Open House

26 Apr

Honors freshmen students enrolled in Prof. J. Houston Miller‘s Scientific Reasoning and Discovery course will present a showcase of their progress throughout the year.  We’ll see their research and examples of their experiments.

In this section of Scientific Reasoning and Discovery, students harvest biofuel from algae.  All of their scientific study is done in the context of creating a biofuel start up company, so the students learn how to solve real problems in the real world.  Several students have won funding for their class projects from the Sigelman Undergraduate Research Enhancement (SURE) award.  Last semester, the class and students were featured in the Planet Forward film festival.   It’s cool stuff!

Everyone is welcome (and encouraged) to come check it out!  Poke your head in to see their work.

The “algae open house” will be in the UHP Club Room at 714 21st St on Friday, April 29th from 3pm to 4:30pm.

Come to the open house to check out the projects Houston Miller’s students have been working diligently on for the past semester.  Why come?  Support your peers, see some ridiculously cool science/business hybrid, snack on refreshments, and scope out Miller’s class to see if you’d like to be a part of it next semester.

Meet and Eat at the Welcome Reception [Events]

Welcome Reception, 2009

It’s that time of year!  Everybody comes back to campus again, and some for the first time!

We’re going to celebrate with an open house welcome reception for all UHP students and faculty.  Come hang out with us in the Honors Office on Thursday, September 2nd from 4-6pm.

There will be food (of course!) and it’s free.  So just stop on by, meet the new (and new to you) professors and generally have a good time with other UHPers.

RSVP on Facebook so we order enough food, and check out pics from last year here.
