Foggy Bottom’s Duke: Edward Kennedy Ellington’s Washington [Recommended Event]

An event that commemorates GW’s Foggy Bottom Centennial and the annual Smithsonian’s Jazz Appreciation Month.  The program includes a presentation by the founder of JAM and curator of American Music at the Smithsonian’s American History Museum, Dr. John Hasse who will talk about the Washington, DC that nurtured Duke Ellington for the first 25 years of his life… his childhood, school days, and first musical experiences.  Dr. Hasse and members of GW’s musical faculty will then discuss the Ellington legacy in the 21st century and then the GW Faculty Jazz All Stars will present a half hour concert of music written by Duke Ellington.  Post-concert reception on second floor of the Media and Public Affairs Building.  Reserve a seat at http://foggybottomduke.eventbrite.com.  For more information about GW’s Foggy Bottom Centennial, visit www.gwu.edu/foggybottom100.
