The Most Unconventional Internship We’ve Ever Shared [Intern]

1 Feb

We’re guessing you probably have to be 21 or older to take on this internship, which looks like it could be a lot of fun.  We’ve definitely never seen one like this before.

Marketing and Communications Assistant

Internships | Washington, D.C., United States

The company: District Karaoke

District Karaoke — the District’s only social, team-based karaoke league—is a new, fun and exciting start-up company. We’re a highly motivated and quick-witted (at least we try to be) group looking for someone with those characteristics.  If that describes you, then keep reading because we want you to join our team!

In its inaugural season, District Karaoke occurs weekly at our sponsor bar, Policy Restaurant and Lounge, and we do not have an office. So tasks not done in the sponsor bar will be completed elsewhere (that is, wherever you work best).

The position: Marketing and Communications Assistant

Are you interested in marketing and communications? Are you a social media wiz? Want to gain experience with a start-up organization? Great, then keep reading because it sounds like you’re the ideal person to be one of the two (2) amaze-balls assistants District Karaoke is looking to hire!

We are in search of two (2) extremely organized, easy to get along with, sociable and fun part-time assistants to help us grow our new company—District Karaoke, D.C.’s first and only social, team-based karaoke league. You’re not required to have any singing talent whatsoever. One team member is already terrified of singing in public, so do not worry about your vocal skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend District Karaoke on a weekly basis (Wednesday evenings for three [3] hours per week)
  • Compose blog articles for District Karaoke
  • Initiate relationships with potential partners
  • Assist with planning special events
  • Create documents and promotional materials
  • Research and additional duties, as needed.

Qualifications for our ideal intern:

  • Strategically organized
  • Internet and computer savvy
  • Possesses a reliable laptop
  • Impeccable writing/grammar skills
  • Ability to listen and propose ideas (you’re part of a team and we’d like to hear your thoughts)
  • Experience with social media, including Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and blogging
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications

Compensation: No monetary pay, but you’ll gain tons of skills and experience (trust us)

Deadline: Applications are due by February 29, 2012

Timeframe: approx. March 1, 2012 – approx. May 31, 2012

To Apply:

If you are interested in this position, whatever you do, PLEASE do not send us a cover letter and resume. We’re not a traditional company and would fall asleep reading it. If you really want this internship, tell us (in writing, video, PowerPoint, etc.):

  • Why you are perfect for the job
  • Experience you have pertaining to the job
  • What you would offer our team vibe
  • Your go-to song (even if it’s only what you sing in the shower)

We’re serious about the app process.  If you send us a cover letter and/or resume, we’ll snicker behind your back.  Just tell us why we should hire you!

You may submit your application to districtkaraoke@gmail.com by February 29, 2012. Please include the subject, “I want to intern for District Karaoke.”
