How to Win $6000 [Kilgore Prize]

5 Apr

The English Department is pleased to announce that it is this year administering the Kilgore Prize for students interested in parliamentary procedure. To be eligible, you must be a current GW freshman, sophomore, or junior. Although English is handling the award, you do not need to be an English major to submit.

To enter students must compose an essay of 300-400 words (approx. 2 pages) on some aspect of parliamentary procedure as taught in Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised. The essay should be submitted under a nom de plume with a cover letter identifying its author, with contact information. The essay should be placed in an enveloped labeled “Kilgore Competition” and delivered to the English Department main office (Rome 760) by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2011.

The winning essay (as judged by a small faculty panel) will receive the Kilgore Scholarship, which this year is $6,000.
