Conflict and Disaster Management Internship [Paid Internship]

16 Mar

Chemonics International is looking for a Conflict and Disaster Management/ Democracy and Governance intern for approximately 20 hour/ week. Chemonics is an international development consulting firm that promotes meaningful change to help people live healthier, more productive, and more independent lives. Around the world, we design and implement projects in financial services, private sector development, health, environmental management, gender, conflict and disaster management, democracy and governance, and agriculture.

Chemonics’ Conflict and Disaster Management projects work to achieve impact in fragile and crisis environments by adapting traditional development programs to meet the unique needs of these dynamic and sensitive contexts. Understanding that working in high-risk or post-crisis environments requires programs and resources that are flexible and responsive to specific country circumstances, Chemonics relies on rapid-response mechanisms; multi-sectoral interventions; and community-based, participatory approaches to aid in rebuilding.  Chemonics also supports governments in rebuilding communities in post-conflict and post-disaster situations. Chemonics Democracy and Governance projects seek to build the legal and policy frameworks, institutions, and citizen participation that breathe legitimacy and fairness into government. To accomplish this aim, Chemonics offers a range of services, from e-government to building civil society’s capacity to serve as a watchdog. We always seek to ensure that our efforts foster a host-nation environment that respects individual liberty, guarantees transparent government institutions, and gives average individuals a real voice in their futures regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, familial origin, political affiliation, personal opinion, or economic status.

The intern should have an interest and some professional or academic experience with at least one of these two fields. Interns are paid $12/ hour. If you are interested, please send a cover letter and resume to Deborah Perlman to apply. For any questions about the internship or working at Chemonics, also feel free to contact UHP student Naomi Logan (who currently works at Chemonics) at
