Cheap, Affordable CVS for Every Child [The Cherry]

8 Nov

GW students will soon have one more amazing benefit of attending university in the District, as global philanthropist CVS plans a pilot program for the Foggy Bottom community.  Tentatively named “One CVS Per Child”, this initiative is designed to make sure that every young person of the world has the ability to buy only slightly overpriced goods from a sometimes-24 hour mid-sized retailer.
“It’s about doing the right thing,” says CVS Director of Giving, Tom Ryan.
According to its mission statement, the eventual mission of OCVSPC is empower the children of developing countries to learn by providing one connected CVS store to every school-age child.  “In order to accomplish our goal, we need people who believe in what we’re doing and want to help make almost affordable shopping for the world’s children a priority, not a privilege… While children are by nature eager for relative value, many countries have insufficient resources to devote to CVS store construction—sometimes less than $20 per year per child (compared to an average of $7,500 in the United States). By giving children their very own CVS, we are giving them a window to the outside world, access to barely acceptable variety, a way to connect with each other, and a springboard into their future. And we’re also helping these countries develop an essential resource—resigned, less-hopeful children.”
CVS will launch the program by installing two additional CVS stores in the Foggy Bottom community.  “The construction of these two stores,” says Ryan, “will make sure that there is a CVS in every GW dorm building.”  “This is such a wonderful thing to happen to GW,” reported an excited sorority member.  “CVS helps the world so much, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”  When asked which world issue  she expected CVS to help solve first, “Definitely the HIV/AIDS crisis.  With a CVS for every child of the world, emergency 2:00 am family planning runs will become an achievable goal for everyone.”
