Volunteer Opportunity: Sister Cities International 5K Race & Festival

20 Oct

Sister Cities International is a non-profit organization that connects U.S. cities with communities abroad to actively promote mutual cultural understanding and economic development. Led by ordinary citizens in communities large and small, Sister Cities International strives for global cooperation through humanitarian, educational, economic, technical, youth enrichment, and sustainable development projects.

SCI holds an annual 5K Race & Festival for World Peace in Washington, D.C. to raise visibility for its  efforts. Proceeds from the event support thousands of youth worldwide engaged in various SCI initiatives, including scholarship programs, leadership conferences, and student exchange partnerships.

The 2010 5K Race & Festival will be held October 23rd at the intersection of Pennsylvania Ave and 21st Street NW.

Volunteers are needed to help with such activities as set-up, registration, check-in, carnival games, water stops or cultural festival. Volunteers can check-in at 6:30am for the 6:30-10:30am shift and at 10:30am for 10:30am-2:30pm shift.

For the check-in location, please look for the sign that reads, “Volunteer Check-In” upon arrival at 21st and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. Volunteers will be provided a volunteer t-shirt, goody bag, and refreshments.

Students interested in registering to race can do so at www.raceforworldpeace.org until Wednesday, October 20th by 5pm. This entails a $25 registration fee, but there is a $35 registration fee for students registering in-person the day of the race.

Please arrive early to allow for timely check-in or registration.
